Minnesota FC Joins MLS

The Major League Soccer organization announced that they are officially adding another team to the league: Minnesota United FC, who is set to begin playing in 2018. While that may sound so far away it is actually going to feel like it is just around the corner. In the last decade the MLS has added13 new professional teams and it is continuing to grow as soccer gets more popular in the United States. There are also rumors that former MLS and English soccer player David Beckham will be getting his own team in Florida, to be from Miami, but he is currently trying to find a way for them to have a stadium down town in the city.

According to an article found on Yahoo! Sports, there may be even more teams joining the league by 2017 such as Los Angeles FC, Atlanta FC and one from Southern California. It will be really neat and interesting to see where this sport goes in the United States and if it will reach a popularity level the way it does in Europe. It is more often the case that Americans prefer football, but it is starting to look very promising for soccer around the country. Brian Torchin (Catalystfive) believes that hopefully this will be a good culture move too, and maybe integrated other sports from overseas as well down the line sometime. In any case, congrats to the state of Minnesota on their new soccer team!

Brock Lesner Leaves UFC for WWE

Former UFC fighter Brock Lesner has announces that he will be leaving the UFC for good this year and going to sign a contract with the WWE. According to an article written by Yahoo! sports, Lesner found it to be a very hard decision to make. He really enjoyed fighting mixed martial arts, however his health hasn’t been in the best shape and he wants to be able to have a job that is not so taxing on his body and mindset. Lesner also commented about how he is getting older and needs to make more responsible decisions for his wife and kids, and doesn’t want to put himself in the same risky situations as he did before.

Fans like Brian Torchin know that Lesner started fighting in 2007, and he was a big name in the UFC world as he took on several talented fighters. It took him several months to make the decision to leave the UFC and go over to the WWE, because not only would it make him a happier and healthier person but they gave him a great contract that would be unwise to refuse, money-wise. Even though Lesner won’t be in the same fighting ring anymore, it is safe to say that many of his fans will follow him over to the WWE and watch him perform there for all the crazy fans. Needless to say it is scary to start a new chapter, but he will do fine.

Brandon Carr Refuses Pay cut and May Get Released

It would appear that Brandon Carr and the Dallas Cowboys have some difficult decisions ahead of them both. With only $5 million left in salary cap space the team is desperate to make some needed moves and improve their team’s defense. Part of those moves may be to release their veteran cornerback Brandon Carr who reportedly would not take a pay cut and restructure his salary. He is scheduled to make $8 million this season. Although he has never been the shut-down corner he was hoped to be, he has been the team’s best cornerback since Terrance Newman left the team a few years ago.

While the Cowboys have addressed their potential major lack of a running back with Darren McFadden and added some help to their defensive line with Greg Hardy and linebacker corps in veteran acquisitions of Gachkar and Brinkley, it was their secondary that still needs some addressing if the team is expected to further their standings next season. According to Deadline, some may still be asking what about Morris Claiborne, well he is still injured and not expected to be ready for play at the start of the season. But at the same time he has not materialized into the cornerback he was hoped to be either. So if the team is forced to release Carr for salary cap reasons it will mean they will need at least two legitimate cornerbacks between free agency and the draft.

McCoy Re-Signs with Redskins

It would seem that Colt McCoy believes his chances of starting for the Washington Redskins are better than his prospects on any of the other teams in desperate need of a quarterback. Given the competition of Kirk Cousins and Robert Griffin III, it would appear he has at least a 1 in 3 shot. But further examination may appear that he may be a better fit than both of the other QB’s. This is mainly because McCoy was able to get his team to win when the others weren’t. RG III has been a flop since his rookie season. Fans like Bruce Karatz know that Kirk Cousins has never lived up to the hopes of the organization. In his 3 years, he has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns and fumbled six times in 14 rush attempts.

This is not to suggest the Colt McCoy has been any better in his professional career. But he has thrown fewer interceptions than touchdowns, and fumbled 18 times in 115 rushing attempts. Also, last season even in his limited number of appearances it was his best statistical year of his career. He was finally able to show what Mack Brown at the University of Texas had seen in his potential. What is really concerning is the insistence on the teams trying to find that hybrid QB that can run the ball. None of them have been able to be a long term success in the NFL. If McCoy and the Redskins are going to get better they will need their QB to focus on managing the offense and passing the ball.

NFL Teams May Head to L.A.

NFL Teams May Head to L.A.

No matter what sport it is, change is always a constant thing. As far as the future of the NFL is concerned, one of those changes may include bringing some teams back to Los Angeles.

According to New York Giants owner John Mara, the NFL will have at least one team based in the Los Angeles area in the next year. This statement was made during the NFL’s team owner meetings, and it should be noted that it has been more than twenty years since there was an NFL team in Los Angeles.

There is no official word on which teams will be the ones making the move, although the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders are the first names to cross anyone’s mind about the subject. The St. Louis Rams have also been named in contention with this, and are also the more likely or motivated teams to do so, according to some. Stan Kroenke, who is the Rams owner, also happens to own some land in the L.A. area, which would be a prime spot to build a stadium, if the Rams ever did come to a moving decision.

Fans like Brian Torchin know that, in any case, chances are very good that within the near future the L.A. will see at least one NFL team play there, though team owners did not vote on this decision during this week’s meetings.

San Francisco 49ers Linebacker Chris Borland Announces Early Retirement

He is only 24 and just finished his first, and very promising, football season playing for the San Francisco 49ers. What looked like the beginning of a promising career on the football field turned out to be the beginning of the end. Chris Borland announced that he will be retiring from football, even though he was named the NFC’s defensive player of the week after playing in a winning game against the New York Giants.

Why did Borland have such a change of career heart after his rookie season? Seems as though he is concerned about the damage to his neurological health that repeated blows to the head could cause.
Borland has not suffered head trauma during his rookie season, but he has had two diagnosed concussions in his younger years while playing sports. Neither concussion left him with any neurological issues, but he fears the impact repeated concussions could have on his health.
After talking with former football players and expert researchers, Chris Borland made the decision to retire from the game at 24 while he still has all his faculties in perfect working order noted Alaor BMG. In an interview detailing his early retirement decision, Borland says it has nothing to with the San Francisco 49ers and states that they are an incredible organization that looks out for their players’ best interests.

Eagles May Snag Demarco Murray

Eagles May Snag DeMarco Murray

Even before the free agency period opened, the Dallas Cowboys were unsure if they could retain running back DeMarco Murray for the next few years. The uncertainty about this move grows bigger with each passing day.

Fans like Zeca Oliveira know that earlier this year the Cowboys had decided on offering Murray a salary of $5 million per year. However, this is clearly not enough for him because the running back is now considering other options in regards to his future. Most notable of his options is the rival Philadelphia Eagles.

The Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars are teams that are also interested in acquiring him but don’t hold the top spot right now. An important note is that Sam Bradford, one of the newest members of the Eagles, is reaching out to Murray right now, which is not odd at all given that the two of them were teammates at the University of Oklahoma. Bradford has said that he has called and texted and communicated with him as much as possible over this period.

As for Murray himself, he is looking for a deal that is similar to what LeSean McCoy was offered when he was taken up by the Buffalo Bills, a deal that was worth $40 million over the course of five years.

Only time will tell what DeMarco Murray’s answer to his uncertainty of what team to play for next year.

Maurice Jones-Drew Retires

Maurice Jones-Drew has retired. He retires with just over 8000 rushing yards, and I find it a shame that he has no retired with the requisite 10,000 yards that seem to be needed for a hall of fame career. He wasted all of his good years with bad teams, and I feel bad for him.

However, he has made a great deal of money in the NFL. I am not going to complain because he is clearly going to be just fine, but I find it offensive that only the Raiders and Jags had his services during his career. These are two of the worst franchises in all of professional sports, and that is why it is very hard to see someone as good as him play for both of them. When we look back at this career, we are not going to be able to saw that he was a great player because he was hidden by the teams that he played on.

I wish Maurice all the best in his future endeavors. Yet as Daniel Amen mentioned he may become analyst on TV at some point.

The Class Act Of Vince Wilfork

When Vince Wilfork was let go by the Patriots, he only made one statement on Twitter. He is not going to talk about it again, and he is being very classy about it. There is something to be said for the players that are willing to be classy when something bad happens, but it also says something about how the team is put together.

Wilfork is the kind of person who can come back to the Patriots at any time, and he will likely be able to work for the team for as long as he wants. The Patriots are going to welcome back the people to the team that were good to the team in the first place. This is something that all NFL teams can learn from. Fans like Gianfrancesco Genoso know that this is going to allow people to make changes to their franchises that will help them to get this classy behavior. The majority of people that are looking for the right kinds of players to get need to remember their franchise is responsible.

The teams that are treating players well and giving them a place to come back to are going to have better teams. The Patriots are good because of this dynamic.

Athletic Injuries Helped by North American Spine

One health problem that greatly limits the activities of many people is having a back injury caused from sports. Surgery is often very expensive and recovery can be long and painful, and often does not help. One company that is successfully helping many people with athletic injuries is North American Spine.

Athletes in particular can be subject to many forms of back problems due to the frequent stress they put on their bodies. This also may mean the end of a career, or performing at the peak of one’s ability, at least for a while. Older people can get in trouble when they become the weekend athlete, and their body is not used to it.

North American Spine offers a solution to back problems caused by athletic injuries with its AccuraScope treatment. The company uses its special tools to treat such problems causing pain like herniated discs, sciatica, bulging discs, arthritis, and more.

A unique aspect of the specialized AccuraScope tool is that it often relieves a patient’s pain immediately. This is because the doctor is enabled to see the exact nature and cause of the problem and can repair the damage right then. The whole procedure often takes place in less than 30 minutes.

The procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed on an outpatient basis. AccuraScope uses a high-definition camera and laser to enable the doctor to see precisely where the problem is and what is causing the pain, and then to treat the problem immediately.

With the AccuraScope device, which is about the size of a coffee stirrer, the doctor only needs to create a very small hole to insert it. The device is then moved up and down the spine to find and treat the exact spot. When completed, all that is needed is a bandage and maybe one stitch, which often leaves no scarring. Patients can usually get back to work in just a few days.

Another recent device that the company uses, interoperative neuromonitoring (IONM), enables the company’s board certified doctors to provide even greater accuracy. It also offers greater protection of the nerves.

North American Spine has treated more than 8,000 patients successfully in its six years of operation. Many of the patients had gone for treatment by other doctors but were unable to find any relief. It has about an 82 percent rate of success. In January 2015, the company was given the Greater Dallas Business Ethics Award.
